Hof [hoːf] (lateinisch Curia Variscorum; im oberfränkischen Dialekt auch Huuf [huːf]) ist eine an der Saale gelegene kreisfreie Stadt im Nordosten von Bayern. Die fränkische Mittelstadt ist Oberzentrum, Hochschulstadt, Mittelpunkt des Hofer Landes und des Fränkischen Vogtlandes, Sitz der Kreisverwaltung des Landkreises Hof und mit rund 47.000 Einwohnern nach Bamberg und Bayreuth die drittgrößte Stadt Oberfrankens, in der Agglomeration leben etwa 56.000 Menschen.
